Food Inc.: How The Food Gets Inside of Us

Happy Meal from McDonald's for wanted kids.
When I was in 4th grade, McDonald's Happy Meals were my life. The food was good, but the reason why my mom was dragged to the restaurant was because of the special toys hidden deep down within those bright-red boxes. Troughout my childhood years I failed to realize the main purpose of the excitement that waited for me inside those boxes.

In the documentary film Food Inc., viewers were taken on a field trip, showing us the truth on how our Happy Meals  are made and  how McDonald's food eventually get inside of us

When  McDonalds first began, it was a regular restaurant. In the 1950's restaurants were all very similar, and McDonald's had food delivery on roller skates. One day the owners decided to cut costs and created a new process. This new process created a new idea on how restaurants of the future are going to work. In their new process, the McDonald brothers introduced the factory way of making food.

The factory way had less workers with lower pay. This new way helped the McDonald brothers to make more money by making more food at a lower cost. McDonald's became a very rich  company this it is today because of these changes.

The movie Food Inc., showed how the advantages of the first McDonald's restaurant switching to an assembly-line type  operation was that  one person did one thing and the worker could be less responsible and easily replace. 80%  of the American beef supply are controlled by four companies. The names of brands and labels placed on meat and dairy products in the supermarket were misleading. All labels have farmer this, farmer that and have a picture of a barn and green pastures when really they're produced in factories. There's two ways that chickens are physically different now than in they were in the 1950's such as chickens grew at faster rates because of hormones and chickens breast are a lot bigger because it sells more. Vince Edwards was the chicken grower working for Tyson, he was not giving permission to allow filmmakers inside his chicken houses. The reason why Tyson did not allow to have the filmmakers inside the chicken house was because Tyson chicken's are not being treated humanely and this is bad for the company because people might stop buying their chickens.

About 30% of the United States land mass is used to grow corn. The role that government policy plays in making corn such us a dominant crop. Everything is made of corn so, if we have too much corn we can sell it for cheaper meaning if we feed our pigs or cows corn, our cattle gets big and we did not pay much for the corn. The  large meat suppliers were interested in lobbying the government for subsides corn. The corn  is cheap and feeding their animals is cheap so that the cows get big and then they're slaughtered to make more meat. Some products that are partially made of corn are ketchup, jelly, jelly, and many many more. Cattle are used to eating grass but, farmers have started feeding them corn. Cows that eat corn  are getting various called E. Colli that can kill humans.

Kevin Kowalcyk died in 2001 of hemolytic-uremic  syndrome caused by eating ground beef  contaminated with E. Colin O157:H7. The U.S government was in any way responsible for Kevin's death. The FDA did not have enough inspections to insure meat safety.

Ammonia is an addictive that is used in some meat fillers to prevent E. Coli contamination.

Some food is cheaper than other food. These foods are fast foods, chips, and soda. The reason these food see cheaper because the government subsidizes the corn used to manufacture the cheap foods. The  obesity, diabetes, and poverty are linked  because the poor people can only afford the high calorie, high fat foods, were wired to eat high sodium, and high sugar food.

The USDA thinks Joel Saltin's farm is dirty because it is an open-air farm. The animals has less oppurtunity  for  contamination because they are fed natural foods. The large meat packing plants get most of their workers from far away and they are being abused to the meat packing  plants and also they're illegal immigrants from Mexico.

The cheap cost of factory food is  dishonest because the U.S, Mexico, and Canada  made a deal that no taxes will be charged for goods going across the borders. The U.S took the corn growing business away from the Mexicans because the U.S makes corn cheap in the U.S. The food corporations protected by laws because the government is being controlled by the factories.
